  Radio Frequency Identification

Every major warehouse is equipped with radio-frequency (RF) hand held computers and barcode scanners that perform data capture. Inventory is scanned as it enters and leaves the warehouses to maintain perfect inventory accuracy. When an order is received, the WMS performs optimized picking list. The operator scans the picking list using a barcode scanner and inventory location number. Items and picking volume are displayed on the hand-held computers. Order picking is directed by the handheld computers and confirmed by barcode scanning, so the possibility of employee error is eliminated.

Select Nippon Express USA DCs are now being equipped to handle radio frequency identification (RFID) systems, which is being adopted by a growing number of manufacturers, suppliers, distributors, government agencies and retailers to gain more accurate product tracking, improved traceability and increased labor productivity. Many of these companies are Nippon Express USA clients, and we are on the leading edge of RFID and are pioneering new ways delivering substantial business value beyond basic compliance.

Benefits of our RFID technology that are just now showing business value include:

  • Integrates with WMS and other systems, so data flows across systems

  • Is fully compliant with the electronic product code (EPC), so it meets industry tag, reader, printer, middleware and software standards

  • Increased speed and efficiency of warehouse processes, including receiving, allocation, inventory management, picking, packing and shipping

  • Allows for easy location and tracking of containers in yard and at dock doors

  • Improves purchase order (PO) management and secure exchange of electronic documents
