October 28, 2009 — NE India holds groundbreaking ceremony in Neemrana Industrial Zone, Rajasthan
Nippon Express (India) Pte., Ltd. held a groundbreaking ceremony on September 29 for a new warehouse in the Neerama Industrial Zone in the state of Rajasthan.
Among those attending the ceremony were Hideaki Domichi, Ambassador of Japan to India, more than 100 guests representing Indian customers and Japanese companies operating in India, Yasuo Ito, Executive Vice President, Nippon Express Co., Ltd., and P. Krishna Murthy, President, NE India. Participants expressed their sincere wishes that the construction work be completed without incident by July 2010.
India's improving investment environment and its booming domestic demand has spurred a dramatic expansion of Japanese companies into the country, on par with the numbers moving into China and Vietnam. Approximately 300 Japanese companies, especially two- and four-wheel vehicle manufacturers, have set up operations in and around the capital city of Delhi and the adjacent city of Gurgaon in the state of Haryana, and further expansion is anticipated. Accompanying this growth in the number of companies building a presence in this area has been a rapid rise in demand for a high-quality logistics warehouse.
NE India was established in April 2007, and its business has centered on door-to-door transport of air and ocean cargo (leveraging the company's customs clearance license), storage and distribution utilizing the warehouses of business partners, and overseas removals.
The company has extended its domestic sales network to 10 cities, and construction of its first large-scale warehouse will lay the groundwork for enhancing increasingly required logistics functions and for providing high-quality services.
The future site of the warehouse, the Neemrana Industrial Zone in the state of Rajasthan, is located 120km southwest of Delhi on the border with the state of Haryana and has garnered attention as the latest industrial zone exclusively for Japanese companies. Twenty companies have already opted to set up operations there, and plant construction is underway.
The industrial zone is connected by an arterial national highway to Nhava Sheva, India's largest container port, and is scheduled to become a relay point connecting Nhava Sheva with factories in and around Delhi in connection with the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC) project.
The new warehouse is to be outfitted with temperature-controlled facilities, and the introduction of REWARDS (Nippon Express' warehouse management system) will enable NE India to provide customers with high-quality just-in-time logistics services for products, parts/materials or other goods at one of the few world-class warehouses in India.
